The presence of the European bison in the Southern Carpathians creates opportunities for many other species to thrive in the same area. Think about new seedlings, bushes and grasses that can emerge at the place where the bison knocked over a tree. Or the many different types of insects that feast on the fallen tree, like the bark beetles.

But there is more! It may not be the first thing you think of, but the bison dung creates perfect opportunities for all sorts of organisms to feed, mate and breed. Take a look at the close up of this buzzing population of flies and bugs that inhabit the fresh dung in the Plopu valley.
