Howdy folks!

The Bison Hillock is buzzing with adventures so we’re back in this space. We’ll call it the-short-and-sweet journal of the bison hillock team. Spontaneous memories and live reporting. Rangers, students, volunteers, managers, specialists and the local community. 🙂

The homo sapiens population stalking the bison bonanus population in the Southern Carpathians is rising so lots more hands on deck in our efforts to bring back bison into the wild. Meet Nick.

We’re working on a cool new project funded through the Swiss-Romanian Cooperation Program, aiming to bring conservation research closer to the people, by using artistic innovation that mixes technology, hardware and software in an integrated and creative way; A live exhibition will be fed with real data, collected by students living, working in our “hand made” research station. (Read more about the Bison Hillock Innovation Lab, here).

Nick, is a biologist from Wageningen University in the Netherlands and the first student to join the bison hillock research squad. Nick is doing a study on the habitat use of the mighty bison but is also a talented sculptor 🙂 He’ll be sharing a glimpse of his life and work here on our blog.

Our next steps will also take us off the beaten track, as we support locals to set in motion ecotourism wheels and more. So keep an eye out for a first glimpse at the corners of beauty and nature you’ll soon come to visit 😉
